Orientalist Thought and Study of Hadīth and Sῑrah of the Holy Prophet(Index and Bibliometric Review of Theses from Pakistani Universities)

Abstract

From history of Orientalism, it is evident that Some of them are partial and prejudiced, some are research orientated and some have soft corner regarding Islam and third world countries. But the focal point of the research of all these groups is their criticism of the noble Sῑrah of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. This is the area on which most of them have agreed in their behavior, although, their approaches and strategies are different from each other. In this context, the study of the Sῑrah of the Holy Prophet ﷺ and Orientalist Movement has become a very interesting field all over the Muslim World and especially In the context of Pakistan. This paper is a an effort to evaluate MPhil and PhD theses from Pakistani universities on Sῑrah of the Holy Prophet ﷺ and orientalism, their approaches and contribution with reference to Orientalist movement.  In this study 101 MPhil & PhD theses are evaluated.  The collected data is statistically examined in this research paper. The findings suggest that most of the theses do not meet to the level of scholarly research. Therefore, it is recommended to revisit the counter strategy of the Orientalist movement in contemporary era with reference to study of the Sῑrah of the Holy Prophet ﷺ
