Masterpieces of similes in the poem “Nahj al-Barda” by Ahmad ShawqÊ, An analytical descriptive study
Abstract
It is a fact that history of The Arabic literature enrich with numerous prominent scholars since ancient and modern times, and many has compiled books in Arabic Literature in both field of literature e.g. prose and poetry. One of these great scholars is Ahmad Shawqi. He was an Egyptian poet born in 1868 in Cairo, Egypt and died on Oct 13, 1932, in Cairo, Egypt. He was a prolific poet with a fine command of rhyme and diction. His work was, and still is, admired and coveted by many. It is viewed with politeness and respect. He surpassed many for his production and literature. His name held prestige in the Islamic World.
Shawqi wrote many poems about Islam and personalities of Islam. His poems were very much inspired by Islam.
He was famous for his famous poems in Arabic literature. The poem that he wanted to excel from the others is “Nahj -al-Barada fÊ-Madhi- Sayyidi- al -Umm” in praise of last Messenger Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) In this poem Shawqi express the life of the last messenger Prophet Muhammad ((ﷺ for which he cited similes and metaphors.
This poem has a great rhetorical and poetic value, so we chose it for the most prominent aspects of its similes. This research deals with to highlight the types of similes and analysis of poetry from this aspect.
