The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ exemplified remarkable kindness and respect towards both Muslims and non-Muslims. Historical accounts from both the Makki and Madani periods indicate that he never resorted to torturing non-Muslims. In stark contrast, the non-believers of Makkah subjected the Prophet ﷺ and his companions to severe torture. Similarly, in Madinah, Jewish factions engaged in extensive propaganda against the Prophet ﷺ and his followers, oppressing them through various means.
Prominent companions, such as Bilal, Ammar bin Yasir, Suhaib, and Salman رضی اللہ عنہم, endured immense cruelty from the non-believers of Makkah, who employed every conceivable tactic to deter them from Islam. Following the migration to Madinah, Allah empowered the Muslims, yet they consistently refrained from torturing non-Muslims. Despite the fact that non-Muslims martyred many of the Prophet’s ﷺ companions and desecrated their bodies, the Prophet ﷺ explicitly prohibited any desecration of non-Muslim corpses. Even in the context of warfare, Muslims adhered to strict ethical standards, ensuring that elderly men, women, and children among the non-Muslims were not harmed or tortured.
In legal disputes involving Muslims and non-Muslims, the Prophet ﷺ unwaveringly upheld justice, ensuring that the truth was sought and fairness was maintained without prejudice. His judicial decisions were unprecedented and continue to be revered. This paper will explore various expects of the aforementioned topic.
